This July is hot, hot, hot! I expect you’re all drinking plenty of water, right? Hm. There isn’t a clear rule about how much water to drink. This depends on your activity, other health conditions and your sex. But it is generally agreed that most of us don’t drink enough. If you’re feeling thirsty, you’re already dehydrated! You should be aiming to never feel thirsty by having regular water throughout your day.
Every day you lose water through sweating, breathing and going to the loo. You therefore need to replenish your water supply. If we need to put a number on it, 2 litres for women and 3 litres for men is a safe estimate of how much water you should be taking in. More if you’re exercising.
Water is vital to health. It makes up around 60% of your body weight and every system in your body is dependent on proper quantities of water being available. What does it do? Well, for example, it provides the right environment for cells, for ear, nose and throat tissues, flushes out all those toxins from your vital organs and carries nutrients around your body. Have you seen the effect of not watering a plant? The same happens to your body when you are constantly dehydrated. The mildest dehydration will drain your energy and cause tiredness. And let’s not forget the ageing of your skin!
Especially in this lovely weather, make sure you’re drinking plenty of fluids. You’ll feel and look amazing.
