Tick Tock – Christmas in 22 days

Signs of Christmas are everywhere; shops, streets, buses, the tube…. and TV adverts are intensively spreading idyllic Christmas images that look nothing like your real life. These contradictions definitely do not help to keep you calm. So the question is, what can be done about it? If you can’t change the source of stress, try changing yourself. And adapt to the situation.

Look at the bright side – turn stressful situations into opportunities for something more positive. Stuck in a traffic jam? It may as well be an opportunity to listen to your favourite music or enjoy time alone.
Nobody is perfect – striving to be perfect is source of avoidable stress. It is important to set reasonable standards and learn to be OK with “good enough”
Adopt a mantra – create calming saying such as “I can handle it” and repeat it in your mind in stressful situations.
Look at the big picture – ask yourself, “Will this matter in a year or in five years?” Surprisingly the answer is often no. Understanding this will make the stressful situation less serious than it originally seemed.
