Today is the World Diabetes Day

Do you wonder what do have all the famous faces in common? The link consists of two words – diabetes mellitus. There are more than 3 million people living in the UK with diagnosed diabetes and approximately 850,000 people have undiagnosed type 2 diabetes. Could you be one of them?

Most widespread are 2 categories of diabetes – type 1 and type 2 even though there are also other types. Type 1 diabetes is a state when the body doesn’t produce insulin necessary to process glucose and there are no means how to prevent it. Type 2 diabetes develops when your body can’t produce enough insulin, or when the insulin that is produced doesn’t work properly it develops gradually and is often diagnosed at later stages.

Patients most commonly experience these symptoms:

Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Increased hunger
Weight loss
Tiredness
Lack of interest and concentration
A tingling sensation or numbness in the hands or feet
Blurred vision
Frequent infections
Slow-healing wounds
Vomiting and stomach pain (often mistaken as the flu)
